@Myles0Harcourt Well spotted. The later Spits (Mk XIX) had Griffon engines which gave huge increases in power, the predecessors were Merlins. (I now need to go and check my facts as this is off the top of my head!) I do know the BBMF has a mixture of planes available, including both types.
Check their site at raf.mod.uk/bbmf/theaircraft/ (Facts confirmed here.) And just to add interest, did you know some PR planes (Photo-reconnaissance) were painted pink?

you should be proud Phil the merlin was and is the best ever piston engine ever put into a fighter and as a American I thank you because in part it made the Mustang what it was
-
I may be wrong but is the Spitfire a Merlin Engine? It sounds more like a Griffin to me and it look like a later mark.

I just blew my load! Man I love those aircrafts!

The sound of a can of whoopass being opened.

I'm afraid the Spit in the clip has a griffon engine as fitted to the mk 10 onwards. It's still a glorious sound though! Thanks for posting1

When you hear them locally, they resonate - which makes the sound even more impressive.

@shafty37 and women!
I'm no expert, but some of the comments below suggest you are correct.
