  • @1990notch Hardie requires a 1/8 " gap at the end of the siding where it contacts a trim board in the corner or around windows. This area is then caulked.

    Butt joints do not require a gap, and in fact are better installed lightly touching.

    Fibercement can (but usually doesn't) shrink as chemical reactions occur during the curing process. This may continue for several months. Temperature related expansion should not be a problem.
