Many of my planes have been fast planes, so I've decided to build a Slow Stick.

motor and ESC from Hobby City

  • i know this motor, i was going to ask if i twould be suitable for a slowstick setup, now youve answered my question.

I just want to know what the battery is you are using, i personally have a 3S 11.1V 20C "Rhino" Lithium Polymer Battery, and i think it might be a bit heavy, and too powerful for the 18A EXC TAHT COMES WITH the motor.

  • That batt is fine for power requirements. That setup (motor and ESC), is for a 2S-3S so no problem there, and at full throttle that setup with a 9x5 HD GWS prop only consumes like 7.5amps so wayyyy below 18A. Now, for the weight, you'd have to tell me what mah you have,...

I would stay smaller than 1800mah. My setup only had a 1000mah and I went for more than 10min flights at a time.

  • @tenrazo215 selection of motor depends on how you want to fly. In general on a SS most folks like to fly slow, so any low kv motor (under 1000kv) that will spin a large prop (> 10 in) with at least 150 watt of power will do. Cost was very important to me, so I chose to go with the 2410-08 w/18amp ESC combo from hobbyking (now $16.38). Lastly, you should look for a setup that will give you lots of flight time. with this setup, I barely hit 5amps...so lots of flight time.

  • i have a big ass Brushless motor and it flys level IDK but cool!

  • emmm might a say you don't need to angle the motor at all

  • Woah...Bevis and Butthead fly R/C planes?!?!?! Haha nice plane man

  • @tyrian869 No. nothing to do with angle wings, it's torque roll. Anyhow, the angle or what's known as dihedral of the wings will determine how your plane will fly. Make a long story short, the more the dihedral the easier it is to fly (dihedral self corrects if you screw up), but drawback is a less acrobatic plane- that's Y you'll notice on acrobatic planes there's virtually little or no dihedral at all.

  • rc flyers are the ultamint inventers if something isnt right we fix it on our own instead of just buying one. haha

  • ah well, i never liked balsa anyway, to frale, im going to make a big coro wing now, might be a bit heavier, but at least i can have peace of mind.

  • Yea, torque roll will get you. You either do the right thrust to compensate or slowly pick up speed, so the wings have time to compensate for you.

anyhow, don't feel bad, I did the same thing on my riot; luckily my riot is barely 3ozs and no real damage.
