The idea behind this ingenious three dimensional game was to absorb trees around the landscape, turn them into boulders, transport your self as a robot figure to a high enough vantage point in the landscape to be able to see the base that the Sentinel was standing on. Absord his energy and the game was won. If however, he saw you, your energy would be absorbed back into the landscape. Sounds complicated I know but a lot of fun. This is for me simply the best video game ever created.

  • Ah..thank you for posting...

  • I play this on an HTPC through a TV, with some ambient music running. Is still really good game.

  • I had this game on the BBC Micro, which was its original platform. I thought it was pretty creepy and weird when I was a small kid. Gameplay is addictive and simple though; I play it through BeebEm. It's a little slower than the 16-bit versions, but still quite playable, and the slower speed adds some tension to the gameplay.

  • dun dun dun dun dun

  • @inphanta The best thing would be a Sentinel Returns port for 3DS. Trippy, creepy, and in full 3D.

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting, brings back memories!

  • Oh my GOD I haven't seen this game in so long thank you so much for posting this! Talk about nostalgia!

  • I have the C64 and PC versions, and am amazed how good the C64 version is when I still play it. Yes, it plays slower - but trust me when that beam hits you it has the same effect!!!

  • I had this on the C64. It was much slower, but you got the idea. I would've loved to have played this version back in the day though. Someone needs to remake this for the DS or do a Live/Wii Ware/PSN download version of this. Imagine the same stark, minimalist look but stylised and of course, much much faster. Would be perfect.
