ManchuDan22, the reason we have all these issues with our education system is because Japanand Sweden are much more homogeneous and there is much less stratification of economic classes. I would really like to see what the achievement gap looks like in London and Manchester, areas with high racial and economic diversity, I bet its similar to the US.
Why isn't our government reviewing these videos? I have not found one video tonight that actually supports the NCLB! As a future teacher in training I am sick to my stomach about how much the NCLB is contributing to failure!
I teach science in California. I teach chemistry and classes of Earth Science. Most of my chemistry students are eager to learn and have some learning goals. Both my E.S. classes are come to me with extra needs; and often they are absent from class. When they come they make trouble and don't do their work or listen. We need something else for these students.
labor
that may be true, but unless you're saying that our current level of educational success is acceptable, then it doesn't matter
US ED is not doing it's job, and as a union person you should appreciate what happens when a shop doesn't do what it's paid to do.
No Boss would ever accept the crappy results that the US citizens pay for (and pay a lot) in public ED.
Yet over and over the teachers say its not their fault, they blame everyone but themselves
Whose job is it?

hahaha, OK laborgrunt, don't take my word, just look at US education
Where do we rate in the world? not even in the top 20 of educated countries
How much do we spend on education per student? More than any other 1st world country; Japan, UK , Sweden and they beat us in every category
Why do we have a non-HS graduation rate of 30%?
Why are our students still illiterate EVEN WITH a HS diploma?
Because our ED system is so good? That it does not need to change?
Man, GET A GRIP!

I think you are lying, I talk to teachers every day and I have yet to meet one teacher that things NCLB is a good idea.

NO NO NO, don't hold teachers accountable, I don't want to have to actually teach and PROVE that my students learned, THAT"s NOT FAIR!!!

Call 1-888-268-4334 to contact your congressperson to tell them to oppose the Miller/Pelosi NCLB reauthorization plan.
