America and its power may not be a popular concept on the streets of Caracas in 2010, but Venezuelan roads are still packed with American cars from the 1970s.
I visited Venezuela in 1999 and this struck me also. The cars of course are ten years older now. One thing I remember was the persistent smell of gasoline on highways and wherever these big hulking old cars were idling, presumably because the engines are old and there is little incentive to fix gas leaks.
There are hundreds and hundreds of this type of cars EVERYWHERE
