I am so proud RGM is made in Pennsylvania. This video really did show the passion RGM puts into their watches and I am extremely impressed. I hope to one day have enough money to purchase one of their beautiful watches.
Having never had a trade, you have no appreciation of a trade - this is why everything you own is bought from a "me too store" for "me too people" like you.
When you can engrave by hand with the best of them, then speak about replacing yourself with a CNC machine.
Drdbender, please tune in to this video at about 830 seconds on the time line. I believe that it would ultimately be possible to set up a CAD system to duplicate any pattern that a human has done...(has done...in the past). Read Kurt Vonnegut's "Player Piano". However, there is something Human to a dial, a case, a movement etc which has been decorated by the hand of a human being. Humans have a feel, an instinct that a machine will never have. Humans make mistakes. Nothing against CAD, but....
Is there any reason why this process could not be achieved these days with a computer controlled engraving system? Achieving the same bright cut by using the same cutting tools? I do appreciate the art of the old trade. Just wondering if technology replaced the artisan.
Thanks mate, great stuff!

Such a beautiful mechanical art. I am truly thrilled.
And such a tasteful use of Rostropovich playing Bach's 6th Cello Suite! *quivers*
