  • If he isn't top 3 he most definitely is in the top 2 for real!

  • @jason60152 No disrepect intended, but 2 Pac is not in the same league - lyrically speaking - as Rakim. 2 Pac was a modern day poet for sure who rhymed from the heart about his life struggles and he did that well. He excelled because he used everyday language which many could relate to easily. Real talk though, Rakim's flow was scientific. It takes great skill to make a verse phonetically match perfectly to a beat and for it to have great substance at the same time. Rakim Allah!

  • @steadyelegance What the hell my comment to you disappeared? Lol, anyway, yea i understand where you're coming from, i guess you just feel closer to someone who raps about what you've been through. No disrespect back but since you say you're a lyricist i doubt you would know more than Jay-Z about rapping, and to be honest i doubt you could find a good impersonator for Tupac either, he had a unique style.. very strong character, lets just say they are both great rappers. haha.

  • As far as me personally liking him because he's 5%? It's the same as someone losing a homie in the street and then loving 2Pac 'cause he talked about the same thing on a record. We like stuff we relate to - P.E.A.C.E.

  • ..2Pac's message was there definitely but I couldn't hear it because I couldn't get past his delivery. Again, it's hard to compare because we are talking apples to oranges here. 2Pac was more street poet while Rakim was more scientific poet. Rakim carefully constructed his word structure while at the same time throwin' the lessons in there,so he definitely had a message as well. Mad heads got Knowledge Of Self just because of Rakim so his influence was strong in that regard(cont)

  • Hell there are very few professional Hip Hop artists that can even recite Rakim's lyrics correctly and in proper cadence. Remember that Hip Hop Honors tribute to Rakim? All the guest emcees and I didn't hear anyone come close to getting it right. The closest I've heard is when Black Thought does his old school tribute and does the different vocal styles of the greats. Of course, Black Thought is admittedly heavily influenced by Rakim, as are so many others (cont.)

  • I'm a lyricist though, so that's no surprise. As far as Hov saying 'Pac's style was a lot harder...I can't agree on this one; try to sit down and write something like "Follow the Leader" or "Lyrics of Fury" and see what you come up with. It's very difficult to get every syllable lined up perfectly, measure where you are gonna take breaths because you are barely stopping and still be teaching at the same time. (cont.)

  • @kallum14 2Pac definitely gets credit where he's due, and no disrespect intended but I personally can't stand to hear 2Pac rhyming. That being said - many, many people related to him thru his rhyme content and style. I related more to Rakim because I felt Rakim was more technically proficient - again, lyrically speaking - than 2Pac. I preferred Rakim's breathless, complex, precise delivery to 2pac's slower, more simple (albeit meaningful) rhyme style. (cont.)

  • @jason60152 I see.

  • @57worldwide I know that.I meant a song with just them 2.

  • @jason60152 Classic - Kanye West featuring Rakim, KRS-One, and Nas. They HAVE done a song together.
