VICTORIA - Victoria is famous for February days featuring sunny skies, green grass, and mild temperatures.
What was revealed at a news conference in the capital Wednesday will only add to the capital's cache - Victoria has been named the "Most Sustainable" small city in Canada.
The makers of the study from Corporate Knights Magazine say we are literally drinking in some of the best of what Victoria has to offer in terms of sustainability every day.
The drinking water we draw from the Sooke Lake Reservoir scores a perfect 10 out of 10.
The Capital Region's water guru, Nils Jensen, credits a $12 million ultraviolet disinfection plant, other upgrades, strong staff, and great planning a century ago to choose the site.
Researchers were also impressed with how we get around. Victoria outranked all 16 cities in the study on green transportation use. As for how we live, Victoria was matched by only Vancouver in terms of density.
The capital really stood out in one other area, its elected officials, the only City Council in the country earning a perfect score for its diversity in terms of gender and visible minorities.
And it seems we are a smart bunch. Victoria's population was rated the "Most Educated" in the country.
