Actually what he means when he says "Your mother was a hamster" is that his mom got around a lot because hamsters breed fast and then when he said, "And your father smelt of elderberries!" he meant that his father was a drunk. Because back in those days they used to make wine out of elderberries.

I still remember the first time I showed this movie to my older brother, when the cow was catapulted I had to pause the tape because my brother was literally rolling on the floor laughing hysterically :)
