Hope your dad finds a good job, but did he go to Uni/collage? If he did there wouldn't have much of a problem :)

The main thing is he started a business about a year ago doing construction and such.
Well, there aren't many jobs open for bid or to be had in general so he has no work :/

That's actually a common misconception - Even a college degree in the US Doesn't get you nearly as far as it should, and many, many, MANY people with degrees are also left without jobs right now.
