100,000 gold for an old trinket in an abandoned cathedral? On it!
What on earth could possibly go wrong?
The game introduces us two new enemies today. In addition to the old burricks, zombies, green spiders and hammerhaunts (we saw one down in the bonehoard) we also get a close look at aggressive apparitions, weird ghosts of dead Hammer Priests I guess, and the scary Craymen.
The apparitions throw projectiles, can be killed with Constantine's sword or with several direct hits from Flash Bombs and are apparently deaf. Weird, they could easily hear me messing around, but if Thief Wikia says so then who am I to disagree.
Craymen... they make scary sounds while they wander, that's about it. Yeah, sure, in combat they're also tougher than human opponents, but why would I ever fight anyone or anything fair?
We've got Constantine's sword for the rest of the game now. I don't know if it deals more damage than the old one or not, but I do know it has two other plus sides for sure: it can kill the ghosts due to it's magical properties (although this is the first level we meet them so who cares what the old one didn't do) and more importantly wielding it doesn't make you more visible like the old one did, so you have an easier time to get ready for a backstab.
This is the most confusing to navigate level in the game, the place feels like a maze the first few... hundred times you play through it because there are a lot of different ways to get around it.
The level is annoyingly dark if you don't turn the lights on, but it's harder to avoid the enemies' attention without all the shadows. I think I probably should've turned ALL the lights on for the video since it's difficult to see anything at times, but what's done is done.
This is the first of the two levels in the game where undead enemies actually scare me.
Oh, yeah, got menu screens working now because I installed DDFix. Didn't think of installing it before because the problems with the resolution switching never bother me when I'm just playing for fun, and I started recording the game in a bit of a hurry, because I actually wanted to just PLAY it. The idea of recording it came later.
Why don't I have the loot from the previous level and why is the campaign totals all wrong, you ask? Well, the simple job of installing DDFix marked the beginning of a long and unnaturally unlucky series of PC problems, which lead to me losing my save files. No, I actually didn't remove them myself like I thought at first. My PC is just breaking bad.
@ Johnny, what are your system specs?
Some people have difficulty running the game with modern hardware and/or Windos 7 x64...
I can play it fine though :)

At least the electricity in this part of the city still works.
Huh. So the wall that blocks off this part of the City was built up on short notice. Must've been a BIG disaster for a wall this big to be construct on short notice and almost constantly.
Oh great, ZOMBIES. DX
o_o That sounded REALLY close.....
Oh crap, burricks!
What the Heck is THAT thing?!?
Crap, the only thing WORSE about zombie is not being able to SEE them! DX Wait, are those voices.....?

YEESH, the Hammers are as harsh upon their own guys as everyone else.
Catastrophe? Probably something to do with the undead mentioned in the quote.....
If it were me, I don't care even if you'll give me a tropical island, I ain't taking THAT kinda risk.
OOOO, ANOTHER piece of valuable loot to collect! Plus an idol that gives thieves good luck. THAT'S worth checking out.
Hm.....this info might be useful later.....

OOOOO, what's THIS......?
Ah, so Garret is meeting with Viktoria, then?
We finally meet her employer, Constantine.....the same man who's house you just ROBBED.....as a TEST.
Garret cuts to the brass tacts, and Constantine delivers - wait, are those VINES....? Anyway, the next job for our hero is a jewel called the Eye, locked away in a Cathedral by the Hammerites. There's a hefty sum wanting for Garret, plus as a bonus, he gets to keep the sword he just stole.
THAT'S NOT GOOD!!! D:

Damn that was a kickass intro!

So Constantine knew Garret was going to his home, otherwise the place seemed booby-trapped to the point of inconvenience for the homeowner.

So the plot finally kicked in eh? I did like the fact they took a few levels to get to it, just to feel the game first.
