PDATE: I went to the eye doctor and found out my vision is worse I now have counting fingers which is worse then 20/400. I looked into the leader dog GPS and found out I could take the class on the GPS but I have to buy it it is not included with costs the school pays. They provide the travel, room and board plus the class but in order to take the class I need the GPS if ANYONE can help me get this I'ld appreciate it and cherish this gift of freedom and independence.

I am legally blind from birth I was born 2 and a half months early and due to that I have retinopathy of prematurity, because of this condition I'm blind in my left eye and have 20/400 in my right eye. also because of this condition I am at higher risk of developing cataracts which I'm starting to get now, macular degeneration, retinal detachment (happened in my right eye 2007) so now at a higher risk for that happen again. I'm also at a high risk of getting glaucoma.
I often get lost because I can't read street signs. and when I get lost I often times have to call on my family to help me find my way and I hate to be a burden on them. I'm 27 and want my independence and freedom to go places and feel safe and know where I am.
Having this GPS system made specially for the blind would give me my independence and freedom with it I could confidently travel to other places like I've always wanted to go to New York but scared to go because of getting lost no one will be there to help me out of it except strangers and sometimes that could be dangerous.
sadly having a disability is not cheap most the time those of us with disability's can't afford the equipment we need to stay independent. This GPS is $300 plus shipping and out of my price range.. If a few kind hearted people could help me find a way to get this device. I'd love and appreciate it deep within my heart. You all have been so kind to me and am very glad to have you all in my corner, you've been there for me the last year with my eating disorder and other mental illnesses and as you know my life isn't easy and if this device can make one huge part of my life easier I wish I could afford it.
I tried going through vocational rehab in my state they won't buy it for me. So its up to me to get it but I simply can't afford it. If anyone can help me get this it would help me so much to have my independence and thats what I want the most in all the world to be free to go were I want.

I am visually impaired/legally blind and I would recommend the IPhone w/ gps features. It is very portalbe and can do a lot more than the trekker only. As the State Services for the Blind in your state and see if they'll hook you up. Mine has gotten me a lot of technology to help me stay independent in my work.
