Timelapse of the creation of My Own Universe, a really bad game created in 48h for the Ludum Dare 22 competition. You can play the game here:

This is the third time I enter a Ludum Dare compo, and the worst for me by far. The theme was, in my honest opinion, really bad. It did NOT inspire me even a little. I came out with an awesome idea for a game, and realized too late it was not that good for a 48h game.
The first scene is exactly as I wanted it to be. As soon as you enter the hole, things gets rushed and you get a story spam to finally end the "game" having done absolutely nothing. The original idea was to make you suffer to get to the "device" that would save the universe, as a real platformer game, then, on the most important moment, make you disappear from the world. But there was not enough time.
You'll notice really short lunch/dinner breaks. I cut off those bits because Ubuntu made the whole screen black after a few minutes of inactivity, and I didn't like the timelapse with SECONDS of black screens (a total of 600 frames IIRC).
Enjoy the video, enjoy the music, and read those damn notepad texts I wrote!
PS: Kittens didn't get into the game. One did get into the timelapse. Yay! =^.^=

Music:
+ C418 - I Jike my Lob
Software:
+ Featured in the video: Eclipse Indigo, Pinta, SFXR, Tiled
+ Used for the capture/encode: Scrot, Mencoder
+ Games played: Cave Story (original), Bit.Trip Runner, Binding Of Isaac
Game programmed in Java, using Slick2D framework (which, in turn, uses LWJGL)
p.s. like how you put in all the comments in the notepad. My time-lapse would have sucked, I never got launched on the theme. 48 hours is so challenging.

I've been thinking of making my own 72 hour competition with it's own API, and integrated development environment specifically designed for making for a fair competition that can be spectated in real-time. Any thoughts or suggestions?
