Beacon Ray Model 175

Federal Sign and Signal Model 175, also referred to as the "Hill Light." The white/clear beams are angled, one up and one down.

the city i grew up in in Missouri had twin 175s on the roof of their snorkel truck. I fact it was the only truck on that department that had this series of beacon ray.

To add to what einzig54 said, The Oklahoma Highway Patrol DID use these lights up until the late 80's early 90's. As a matter of fact, Federal signal, honored the OHP with THE last "bubble light" ever produced. It has a gold cover, instead of chrome. Its on display at the Headquarters building in Oklahoma City.

That comment must be because of one of mine... I know the 175's never came with blue bulbs, I was just trying something different and had a blue light on the front of my 77 so why not....

The bulbs on this light are arranged exactly as Federal Signal had intended them to be. When this light was designed back in the 60's, blue bulbs were not even thought of yet. Everything was either red or white and normally the whole dome inself was colored with white bulbs behind it. On the 175 normally with a clear dome the two horizontal bulbs were red and the skyward positon and angled to ground position were white.

Yeah, you can set them up so the clear lights come on independantly from the red sealed beams. An awesome light!!

Im a classic light and siren fan and i had one purchased from a fire show just a few days ago.But took it back to the vender that sold it to me becuase i thought it was broke.When now im realizing i might have hooked it up wrong.So i just have a 176 beacon ray instead.You want to talk about being mad...

These are my personal favorites. The Buffalo Fire Department's apparatus for well over 25 years (until 1992). My favorite combo is this light sandwiched between two strobes. This was found on the 1974 ALF Pioneer II engines.
