Dale! You are lucky to have been able to get a kidney and from such a great person like Phillip! In this interview it was mentioned 73,000 people need a transplant I also heard about 6,000 a year die waiting for a kidney. This shouldn't happen! If more people would be educated about kidney donation, more lives would be saved! Learn about kidney donation. Contact me or do your own research. It may be a lot easier than you think! It wasn't such a big deal for Phillip me, my brother & others!

    Congrats to Phillip and Dale!

This is Chris, the original poster of the GMA profile piece.

An admission regarding LIVING DONOR consideration: I, like many people, may be ignorant and fearful as well?

And incredibly, my brother is a Nephrologist (a KIDNEY DOCTOR)! He doesn't do transplant surgeries, but has devoted his career to this vital organ.

I am ALWAYS inspired by the generosity of living kidney donors and appreciate "Kidneymitzvah's" comments and info here.

If you would like to e-mail me or other kidney donors I am in touch with to find out about our great kidney donation experience, please call me at (917) 627-8336 or e-mail me. This website for whatever reason is not letting me put my e-mail address the normal way on this posting - so that's why in the first comment I posted I just put KidneyMitzvah at AOL. Looking forward to hearing from all those considering kidney donation! I have great info I can e-mail you.

People don't realize is you can live just as well with one kidney as with two. Once the kidney donor goes through the recovery period - their life is the same as before they donated a kidney. There is no special diet they have to go on - and don't have any medications they will have to take as a result of their kidney donation. It's such an awesome experience!

One important note: If you want to donate a kidney - the less people you tell, the better. There will always people who will try to talk you out of it! Don't let them - unless it's a health care professional or someone who knows you and feels you are not mentally capable of doing this. I didn't even tell my mother until after the surgery was done! She took it very well when she found out though and allowed my brother to do this as well!

If you are thinking about donating a kidney - you have to be prepared that if you mention this to others, there are people that are going to tell you that you are crazy for wanting to do this! Probably most kidney donors go through this. If the general public knew all the facts - most would feel differently. Don't let others stop you from wanting to save a life!

Since I donated a kidney to a stranger in 2005, I have been trying to help others in desperate need of a kidney. So I first took a booth to promote kidney donation at an Expo at the Javits Center in NYC in December 2005. Since then, I have accumulated a list of people who are in desperate need of a kidney. I got my brother to donate a kidney to someone on my list who was in need of a kidney. He donated a kidney in 2007. He is doing great as all the other kidney donors I am in touch with.

Wow -- what a fantastic and inspiring interview! I spoke to Phillip Palmer recently and he is a great person! I hope this wonderful interview will inspire others to donate a kidney, if it hasn't already done so! I donated a kidney in September 2005 and it was the greatest experience of my life! Other kidney donors I am in touch with would agree with me as well! If you need more info on kidney donation - please feel free to contact me at KidneyMitzvah at Aol

She thinks sharing a kidney is much more than sharing a bond?
