The last US combat brigade has left Iraq, seven years and five months after George Bush, the former US president, defied the UN Security Council and invaded the country in March 2003.

The drawdown comes nearly two weeks ahead of the August 31 deadline set by Barack Obama, the US president.

But 50,000 US soldiers will remain in Iraq until the end of 2011 to help train and give Iraqi security forces logistical support.

Al Jazeera's Josh Rushing reports from the Iraq-Kuwait border. (Aug 19, 2010)
