This is an exercise that is used to strengthen the muscles surrounding the foot, ankle and lower leg. It can be useful in preventing shin splints.

It wouldn't really strengthen the achilles but it would stretch it. To strengthen the achilles do TOE walk rather than heel walks.

i need to do some of these i got really bad shin splints last lacrosse season and now im worried i will again for track

would this exercise help strengthen the achilles even though it would seem it does not involve the achilles?
