After being punched around with powerful scenes of humanity's dark sides for a couple of hours, JUST when you thought that this movie was about to turn Hollywood and have a happy ending after Louise asks Johnny to go back with her, this scene delivers the knock out.
@EmmanuelSupertramp The soundtrack is by Andrew Dickson. As far as I can tell, it remains unreleased as an audio recording, and there is no published musical score of it either, more's the pity! It's such a wonderful score, right up there with Jonny Greenwood's score for "There will be blood" and any of Bernard Hermann's Hitchcock scores. Wow.
@ajmedway Well... It's hard to say. Louise certainly loved johnny and he cares about her as well ("Do you hate me?" "Fuck off" [Smiles]) But something in him propels him to behave the way that he does. Besides, both of them probably knew that it was not going to be "happy ever after", just that they would be together again for as long as it lasted. I think that Johnny doesn't believe that he can be part of the normal world anymore.
@ajmedway He has some serious emotional problems, that's for sure. That's what I loved about the movie. After he's beaten, it seemed like it was leading up to the traditional "happy ending" formula, but nope. He steals the money & he's back to where he left off...
Why does he choose to run? I like mystery but that ending makes your head spin - Louise had just left to quit her job, so the could live "happily ever after, in rainy Manchester"... Johnny is a man that nobody could ever work out.
