This is the promo video for the 2009 Steubenville Summer Youth Conferences that happen at 19 different locations across the nation and are attended by over 50,000 high-schoolers ever summer.

The theme this summer is "Above All" and is taken from 1 Chronicles 29:11:

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

...there are many different modes of prayer and spirituality and different charisms of the Church...really, something for everyone.

I'd just encourage you to have an open mind about this, and not be too quick to judge something that has proven, over decades, to be a great resource for the young Church here in the United States.

....we tell them at the conferences that they WILL endure hard times, or "dark nights" of sorts.....but at the Youth Conferences we create a venue where they can have a genuine encounter with Christ and experience Him in an intimate way....what St. John of the Cross would refer to as "consolation." That IS a great book, by the way!

If contemporary Christian music isn't your thing...that's totally fine. You don't have to pray that way. That's the beauty of the Church!.....

...yes, you're correct that teens might become emotional at a conference....but that is to be expected when they are experiencing a conversion in their hearts that's forcing them to turn away from a life that's contrary to what God wants for them. For many of them, coming to that realization AND making the radical decision to change their lives is an emotional thing.....did Christ not feel emotions?......

....having attended the college and been involved with the Youth Conferences for over a decade I can assure you that one of its PRIMARY goals is to immerse the young person in the life and mission of the Church, its teachings and important figures....including the lives of the saints; in particular, young saints like St. Therese of Lesieux, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, St. Gianna Beretta Molla, etc.....

I'm glad you clarified that it is "just (your) opinion" because the FACT is that Franciscan University of Steubenville is one of the most dynamically orthodox, Catholic colleges in the world, maintaining strict adherence to Christ, The Holy Father, the Magisterium and all the Church's teachings.....and the same transfers to the Summer Youth Conferences, which it sponsors. I'm sorry you've been so affected by your encounters with your "very liberal catholic parish"....

@Dixmani to god, the church isnt your only way to find god, the little things in life that teach you the biggest lessons are what count. I am 15yrs.old ive been to Steubenville twice, ITS DEFINITELY WORTH I. But every1 has their own opinions that others dont agree upon but we have to respect them for that. Life isn't rainbows & it wont evr be that way, u make it how you want it to be not what others want to see, go expirience wat you think is worth it. Steubenville is only one thing theres more

@ARosaryCrusader ....Yes there is salvation outside of the Roman Catholic Church. john 3:16 'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' ...Its sad to see the current catholics praying with the the Rosary through Mary (non Biblical basis)...in John 14:16 Jesus said Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth & the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"...which God are they praying to then?
