Simply explaining to your children that what they're doing is wrong; and if they don't listen put them on the naughty step until they listen to you (which will inevitably happen - eventually) - this is the best way to show them who's boss! It's about perseverance. Yes it's tedious, but nobody said parenting was easy!

Hitting children teaches them nothing. In my opinion, it's lazy parenting. If you hit your children when they're naughty, then they will grow thinking that violence is acceptable, you see this all the time.

Mindful, reasonable disciplining by spanking is necessary for a child to get serious. There is no child that will not try to use the last resources of being a bad kid, if they see their parents are mellow and afraid to discipline them. The same thing with school kids. Until they see you mean business, they will do their best to walk over you.

people have to learn theres a difference between spanking children & beating the c**p out of them. My opinion is that spanking them should only be a last resort if you've tried everything possible & they still act up. First warn them, then take privileges away & if they still act up or become more violent, then spank them as a way of saying thats what i feel like when you hit me, then that may put them off & reduce their violent behaviour. in the old days spanking was a way of exerting control.

Putting your hands on your kid is not assault...the bible tells us as parents how to discipline our children and that's exactly what I'll do with my kids...

I got whoopings as a kids and more parents needs to discipline their kids and if it means whopping that butt wit a belt or slapping the taste out of their mouths so be it.

I do agree with spanking if nothing else works. I was a horrible violent child, time outs didn't exactly cut it. I didn't learn my lesson until my brother whooped my ass one day when I was 13.

Hitting is not just awful IT IS INEFFECTIVE. Yes kids need discipline, but that can be achieved without . A nd while NOTHING "works" all the time, spanking almost NEVER works at all.
