Its a short film about India. This was a small project we made for a Advantage India film competition. It is directed by MICA (Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad) student Gopal, its co-directed by Ruchir Raju-Deepti, cinematography and art direction is done by respectively Akshay Vyas and Tonmoy Kaushik.
ADVANTAGE INDIA THE 3 MINUTE FILM COMPETITION has been launched by www.1takemedia.com, India's largest entertainment JOBS portal in association with River to River Florence, Indian Film Festival, (www.rivertoriver.it), Italy's Largest Indian Film festival. This festival, in its 8th year, has the support of the government of Italy and the Indian Tourism office in Milan.
The jury members include prominent youthful film makers like Kunal Kohli, Indra Kumar, R. Balki, Rohit Shetty and Selvaggia Velo(jury member in MAMI). The winning films will be screened at the prestigious RIVER TO RIVER festival at Italy.
The theme is refreshing. ADVANTAGE INDIA is about showing anything positive about India or its citizens. R. Balki, the director of Cheeni Kum and National Creative Head, Lowe worldwide, observes "In today's time, where every newspaper and news channel thrives on selling negatives and sensationalising small problems, this competition should lend some optimism". It was this concept that drew TIME BROADBAND to sponsor this event & suggested that may give the winner a contract to produce short films for them.
Kunal Kohli loved the idea of positivity. He said "There are so many positives about India. We all know the greatness of our culture, heritage, history, food habits etc. Our IT development and infrastructure is one of the best in the world. India has done so much of for the world of science. There should no dearth of ideas or films to participate in this event." We should also know that India is amongst the largest producers of milk, rice, wheat, sugar etc.
Rohit Shetty, (the director of Golmaal and Golmaal Returns) straightaway liked the idea of involving himself in this competition, while R Balki mentions "Maybe this may find me a good assistant for my next project".
The competition had no restrictions on participation of age, qualifications, languages etc. Anybody with a camcorder can shoot a 3 minute film and send it to the organisers on a DVD. Indra Kumar, director of ISHQ, DIL, MASTI etc mentions "Its good, this competition is not restrictive".
For an industry that is trying to break the shackles of formulae films, this competition will help find fresh talent and technicians.
