it should be:
1) Dissolution of the tacky tape by the epoxy resin
2) Too short distance between the tacky tape and the laminate
3) Single vacuum bag, which does not contain any leaks.
4) ... profit

@datzfast: that works too. ;) but the permeability is so low, such that the force of gravity is not gonna help much. thanks for watching :)

the main error in this video - resin infused across long side 8(
podarokua 2 years ago
That is definitely NOT the main error. You should have at least asked a question before making any conclusion. For "heavy" unidirectional fabrics, the best laminate is produced when the flow front velocity aligns with the 0° layers. I could have aligned the direction of the 0° layer with the shorter edge, but that would have yielded less number of test specimen. The point is not mold fill time, but the alignment between the fibers and the flow front velocity.

I have to say I was slightly dissapointed I didnt get to see it reach the end! It was riviting watching the resin creep across. It was almost there!!!
Why did you post this?

I posted this because I want to be reminded of how difficult a vacuum-assisted process can be. In this case the vacuum is an enemy and a friend. If there is no leak, it is a real friend, but if there is a leak, the vacuum is a complete destroyer, especially with a vacuum bag process.
Sorry for the obscure video. I will post a better one for you, with plydrops and toughened vinyl ester resin. Comin up ;)!
