Steel does not begin to weaken until 2,000F degrees, It gets red hot at 2,500F degrees, and melts at 2,750F degrees.

Because it had an entirely different design than most buildings due to the fact that it had a Con-Ed substation in the lower floors. And it was not demolition style. It did not collapse straight down. It fell towards the damaged section of the building.
