This vibrant young woman suffered more than 200 separate injuries when she was killed by her ex-boyfriend in a case that left a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of New Zealanders. Sophie was a passionate photographer, always stopping to take snaps of her family, the landscape -- and her beloved cat, Kade.

Sophie's mother, Lesley Elliott, has put forward this item to help ensure that other women don't suffer the same fate as her daughter. Although Lesley had a close relationship with her daughter, she didn't recognise the warning signs that Sophie was in an abusive relationship. They include elements of control, possessiveness, jealously, verbal abuse and isolation. When she searched on the internet, Lesley found that around 90 per cent of the signs of abuse were present in her daughter's relationship. Had Lesley realised the danger Sophie was in, she says she would have turned to Women's Refuge for support and guidance.
