I'm 16 and was diagnosed with scoliosis in the summer of 2010! On the 7th of December 2010 I had surgery called spinal fusion to straighten my spine! This is a video of how it all happened

  • Good job! its great to hear that your better now :) im 14 i was told in January that i will be needing a spinal fusion this year, and that a brace is out of the question. He told me i will have to get 7 vertebrae's fused! how many did you have to get? im in extreme pain now and im restricted from bending and playing sports. Did you have trouble with pain before the surgery? i'd love to hear from you, your video is inspiring :) best wishes

  • @SurfingScolioGirl Thanks for watching! :) I'm not sure how many I got tbh but yes, I was in a lot of pain before surgery.Bending down and touching my toes helped but when I stood back up straight, it hurt again. It's scary to think that it's going to happen and afterwards you'll feel like you're never going to be normal again but don't worry, it passes....it just takes a while....anyway, feel free to come back and ask me questions if you need to! :)

  • wow your a tuff girl.

    how r u now?

  • @bakersfieldmusicnow thank you! :) I'm perfect now! I forget I even have a metal spine most of the time now!

  • You are very brave! My 8 year old son has infantile idiopathic scoliosis, which will require fusion in a few years. I see you're consultant is Mr Connolly, he's great we love him. He did a good job. I'm glad it went well. Will the rods come out in a year or so after the bone grafting and your spine has healed? xx

  • @snowgirl06ify Thank you!! oh, I hope it goes well for you and your son! yes, he's a brilliant consultant! no, for me the rods will stay in forever but sometimes they take them out....I'm not sure when, but mine will never come out! I think that's maybe a good thing for me though because I'm so used to the rods being there, it would be strange for me if they were gone!! thanks for watching, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!! :)

  • U should do a 1 year follow up video. How are ya? I hope all went well for you, Im 33 and have scoliosis, but they wont do nothing about mine.

  • @bulletsbaby95 i experienced the same dizziness (more lightheaded) during my surgery, and felt nauseous the first 3 days in the hospital that came with tons of unforgettable pain, it was definitely an experience i will never forget. but now, its well worth it... until it becomes bikini season with a 10 inch scar lol :)
