Many years ago as a college student, I heard Rudolf Serkin perform an all-Beethoven concert at Royce Hall, U.C.L.A. It was a spectacular performance. A couple of ladies sitting behind me commented: "nicht, da Schnabel". How right they were.....

@MrDesperateArtist To many of us, there is just no other "Beethoven" than Rudolf Serkin. One can always have a different opinion, "liking" certain pianist more than others, but there is no question about Serkin's total mastery of the great piano literature really from start to finish. I first heard him play in Ann Arbor, MI in 1971; every season for the next 18 years included finding what venues he was playing that were close enough for me to beg, borrow or steal tickets and attend.Bravo!

you can tell just from his face that he really loves his music. so much skill and hours of practice in order to give a rich, stunning sound. masses of power, but also delicate and dainty in parts.
