This video shows how to hand pollinate chilli plants showing the flower at the correct stage for pollination and will help growers increase the number of fruit on their plants. It is useful in cities where there is a lack of bees.

  • Also all of my other chili plants are producing fruit, they all have the same lighting and watering schedule. I have Hungarian wax, "super chili", bell peppe

  • @snedonkey Hi I checked your video out and I would say firstly, I am no expert and I would like more information to be able to offer some suggestions. I saw the Hungarian wax and Bell peppers, they looked great. Yes, I too have had the flower dropping problem. When my habs were very young they dropped the first lot of flowers and then in the hottest part of summer my flowers drop also. Then for the rest of the year they produce fruit. Stick with it and try a little less fertiliser.

  • do you have to pollenate the plants yourself? and if so do you have to have pollen from a different plant to pollenate another? thnx

  • @juststl You get more fruit if you hand pollenate. No you do not need pollen from another plant, just another flower from the same plant. Hope this helps.

  • @clonedheat so basically i got 1 plant and pollinate the flowers with the other flowers from the same plant? thnx :)

  • @chrisdietlmeier Yes, that is how I do it. You could try cross pollinating with other types of chilli to get hybrids also.

  • What happens if you break the middle part (pistil) while trying to hand pollinate it? Then that bud is wasted and wont produce anything? I'm using a very soft and small makeup brush but still manage to break some. Maybe I don't need to rub that much inside, just barely touch it? Any suggestions?

  • @chandnee Chilli plants are self-pollinators, so you brush the anthers of the flower, and at the same time, your brushing the stigma too, which are the male and female parts of the flower. Chilli plants dont need other plants to produce fruit. hope this helps your understanding

  • so i need to then rub it from flower to flower that are open or what

  • what do you do after you rub the brush on the flowers

  • Hey , whats the technique there? you just brushed off the pollen. Pollination is supposed to carry pollens to the other flower as this flower has already self pollinated.

  • i've been dyin to see this for my indoor gardening... thank you so much

  • I thought chilli plants are self-pollinating, or do certain varieties require this.

  • Surely there are male and female flowers? How do you tell the difference (or will that be obvious when I look in the flowers?!)
