the host keeps saying that awful word -negroe. Disgusting. Dr.King shows great dignity and grace in not rising to the provocation. It made me livid.

It's strange to me too. Many have commented on this term. At the time, it was the acceptable term (to black people). It was not considered an insult. Just like the acceptable term for asian people used to be "oriental".

I'm a white girl from (also from Jersey) and he is the one historical national leader who has really touched my heart and soul with his unflinching dedication to justice and peace. There is no one, I repeat NO ONE (not Obama, who I did vote for and who inspired me greatly in 2008) who can compare to this man's resolve, resiliency, and character. I just wish he could have lived longer so we could have seen him as president, just like Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

it wasn't a horrible word way back then...negro was the word..of choice/correct at the time. wasn't until after the vietnam war the the work black came into play. such a hard time back then. those whites" that didn't feel a difference between the races, really weren't sure what to say. africian-american sounds to me...so distant. we all come into the world the same way. every baby cries with the same sound....so aren't we as one??

I agree with you 100%. The fact is that Obama and King are total opposites in terms of political & spiritual ideology. I enjoyed our exchange.

There's been a huge improvement since the 60's you cant deny that, obviously there is always room for improvement but in regards to laws and societal changes I think MLK achieved a lot, things are a lot different nowadays.

Yes, you're right. People were free to mention someone's race then unlike now. Now you can say where they originate from but not the race. Dr. King uses the phrase himself at 1:33.

Yes I would say so considering there is a black president and racial equality throughout America by law, there has been a revolution in the thinking of whites towards black people nowadays, thank God.
