Sydney's one and only Georgette! This was a "surprise" we had for Georgette on the day - so full improvisation of this piece - no choreography!

Nope! Absolute improvisation. Georgette lived and performed extensively in the middle east where improvisation to tabla is common. There are some tricks to making it look easy though :)

@kattmat The easiest and most effective way to do an impro drum solo is to ask the drummer to do 4 4's. You can then do anything knowing that this is the pattern. A lot also accounts for the dancer and drummer looking at eachother so that the dancer and give signals when to do the rashe(tight shimmy) or too bring the solo to an end. Any good drummer should easily be able to follow the drummer and vice versa. Such accomplished artists such as georgie and Jamal know their rythyms.

Well the introduction is what we refer to as the Amani Solo which is fairly common to hear. Even Issam Houshan did it for Jillian on the first Bellydance Superstars DVD. However after about the 2 min mark, the drum solo is improvised. Jamal is also good at giving musical clues for changes and to also watch the dancer to see when she wants to change and to end the solo.
