Renate Müller with the Ilja Livschakoff Dance Orchestra - Du kannst so liebenswürdig sein... (Lied a.d. Tonfilm „Mädchen zum Heiraten") (Song from the movie „Girls To Marry); (R.Krauss -- Gilbert -- Robinson), Polydor 1932

The information taken from: www.lonbersyl.com/rabes.html

"Closely involved with Hitler, friend of Eva Braun and Marlene Dietrich; celebrated theatre and film star ("Viktor, Viktorie") officially died from epilepsy but in reality pushed to suicide (1937) by the Gestapo's attempts to break up her relationship with a Jew, Renate Müller was one of the most intriguing women of the thirties. She died at the age of thirty in midst of the build-up to the most turbulent times of the 20th century. Painted by the German Max Rabes, this is a brilliantly executed portrait of a beautiful, gifted, yet tragic actress. It is a record of an artist who was at the height of the theatre and film worlds and yet is remembered as a footnote to the Third Reich".

Here's also a poem written by me in 1982 , during the first days of the Marshall law in Poland. In those long long gloomy nights of the winter 1982/83, when Poland's independent movement „Solidarność" was suddenly paralysed by the overnight implantation of the inhuman regime, what one -- who was not arrested yet (it came later) could do? Just read, read, or write Very Sad Poems. Rewieving the bookshelves, I suddenly came accross the old Third Reich film history -- and I read the tragic story of Renate M.
That's how my poem was born: from the feeling of the similar oppression in both of us: me, in 1983 in Poland crushed by Genaral Jaruzelski, and Renate Müller in Berlin, in 1937, crushed by Gestapo and her „forbidden love".

Death of an Actress, Berlin 1937

I sang not knowing
even that wouldn't last
the Earth shook off its cities and people
my records twisted like serpents in the flames

Berlin was sunny that summer
my lover lay dead on the carpet
looking at me from his remote paradise
guarded by the wall and its inscription JUDE
I cried reaching for the revolver
urged on by loudspeakers in the street

it was no longer enough to stand
at the open window
to see the chestnut tree drenched in sunlight
no longer enough
to draw a deep breath

„is that so?" they said after
avoiding each other's eyes

  • I am sorry, but your information about Renate Müller is incorrect! She NEVER was involved with Hitler or Eva Braun! She didn't committed

suicide! Renate sufferd from epileptic attacs,

she falls out of her first floor window by accident! Brought into the Hospital, (see part 2!),

  • It's dirty about the suicide stories. They do not think of what other Mullers are living with. I grew up with stories about Hans Beckmann, Zarah Leander. Renate could fall while singing and in the beginning it was funny. Polio or epileptic attacs were often seen and it was horrible, but people lauhged about it and acted like they did not care for it. Germans where very good in beobachten and this is confused many times by outsiders.

  • She's actually one of my favorite actresses.

  • Forget the rumors, gossip and just plain tittle-tattle and listen to this, one of the most lilting and refreshing voices. I have no idea how she lived, but I do know that her music will live on forever as some of the best of her time. What better legacy could any singer ask?

  • she looks beautiful...and she has a lovely voice... I guess she was overshadowed by Dietrich Lovely though... I love songs from pre war Germany. Very atmospheric.

  • Es ist auch sehr liebenswürdig von Dir das Du immer so grandiose Videos hier bei Youtube für uns einstellst .Vielen Dank!!!
