This is our first visit to A&N Islands in 2003.
The A&N Islands have been inhabited for several thousand years. A small minority of less then 1,000 people are indigenous tribes of the Andamans.
Port Blair: Most of the 75,000 People living here are Bengali settlers.
Cellular Jail: Is a National Memorial Monument of the freedom struggle.
Havelock Island: Beautiful beaches and unexplored dive sites - a pristine underwater world.
Radhanagar Beach - Beach #7 - Rated as the best in Asia by Time Magazine in 2004.
The Indian Ocean earthquake occurred in the early morning of Sunday, December 26, 2004, at the epicentre off the West Coast of Sumatra,
Indonesia, only 600 kilometres from the A&N Islands.
Radhanagar Beach - Beach #7 - Vom Time Magazine in 2004 zum besten Strand Asiens gewählt.
Am Sonntag, den 26. Dezember 2004 dann das Unfassbare. Ausgelöst durch ein Erdbeben der Stärke 9 rast ein Tsunami über Küsten der 600 Km entfernten Andamanen.

Sorry to bother you, did you get the Restricted Area permit on arrival or was it included in your visa (my visa does not have a permit)? Also did you get in the airport or the port?

Hi, there ;-) -> we got the India visa, that included the A&N Islands for a 15 day visit. Then we flew from Germany via Madras to Port Blair. At the Airport, we got the Restricted Area Permit and enlarged it to 30 days max. This may be different now !!, you better ask the India Embassy. This is much better than getting stuck.
Have an exiting time !

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes - this is one of the most beautiful and exciting places we ever traveled to. In 2005 - after the Tsunami - we went there again to see what happened to our friends. We did another documentary about the A&N Islands. You can find it on our channel.

The language is so beautiful. Is it similar to the Sari/Suri of coastal Odissa?

a request to all the tourists and citizens of A&N islands. I AGREE WITH daggyyz1959. This place is being wrecked by the increasing population of the outsiders that come and settle here!! The land here is less and the population is increasing! People are cutting down the dense forests and constructing houses; two three houses for each family! i dont understand how can people be so selfish!! please save my Andaman! its losing its forests, cleanliness and natural beauty!!

The Andamans has been taken over by descendants of the Indian convicts and encroached on native tribal grounds. Even ignoring laws passed to protect them. The Indians should never have been handed The Andamans, they don't belong to them. They should be released back to the natives and everyone else leave.
