  • I can't really recall much about the science classes I took as a student in public school (coincidentally in OK like Wine). What I took from my science ed. was the importance of empiricism and repeatability. I cannot think of an instance of a teacher mentioning religion other than historically, except the time my 9th grade history teacher said she assumed most of the class was protestant.

  • Yes! I must say, as a new high school grad, science education in the U.S.A. is lacking.

I must say that my best teachers were science teachers. My favorite teacher was my physics teacher. He didn't teach just physics, he would often stray from the lesson and start into philosophy. He was probably responsible for sparking my interest in philosophy.

More effort should be put into the science curriculum.

I also agree that music is a necessity. It is not expendable!

  • I went to a private school and what a joke the science classes were. I remember bringing fossils for show and tell.

Geeez you think I was trying to overthrow the church. I was fascinated by the fossils and was surprised at the reaction everyone had from seeing them. This was quite a while ago but I'm sure it would still happen in some schools today.

  • Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Mention science and some kids might seem bored. I think kids dont know that they do like science. There are some good teachers that realize this.

Watch what happens when you bring in a carnivorous plant into a room full of Kids. No yawns or blank looks on their faces. They want to see it and up close. There are so many simple, inexpensive ways to bring excitement into the class room to get kids interested and involved in exploring the world around them.

  • I'm bother with ya. To me, it sucks that the younger generation do not know as much as I did when I was at their age. If anything they should know more as knowledge is progressive. It just pains me to see that the younger generation does not have the opportunity to know more because of the failing education system.

  • You get worked up about science ed in the US??

You should hang with me while I teach my fundie kids. It is so sad that they are taught to distrust me because I teach science. Distrust a teacher?? What?

I am so glad to hear that you had a great bio teacher. It gives me hope in the future. At least in our school, there are two of us teaching bio and we teach it strictly and DO NOT allow religion into our rooms. Just a bit of positive reporting from the front lines.

    5*s great vid as usual.

  • Another great video.

  • I love it when the Christies send me messages with an apologetic I've heard a thousand times like it's some knock down argument. LOL

  • Speaking of "powerful minds", I always get so worked up when people say that humans only use "10% of their brains". WE DO NOT. We use 100% of our brains.

  • There's an easy explanation to your observations.

Most people who call in those shows really DO think their questions are original/new and good; after all they JUST heard them, and to their judgment sound very convincing.

You go to a creationist website, and if your level of knowledge is even lower than theirs (usually somewhere around 1950's level)... of course you'll be impressed; and since it says what you hoped to hear, you'll never check it out from other sources.
