Despite all the versions that have come and gone in the DVD era, the definitive score for me is Carl Davis' from the Thames Silents edition, available on DVD in the UK in The Buster Keaton Chronicles from Network. The music used in this version doesn't really fit.

"The General" was recently released on DVD with a LOAD of extra material (including interviews with Keaton himself!) - and, best of all, a brand new musical score composed especially for the movie by Joe Hisaishi, who writes most of the music for Hayao Miyazaki's movies!

There are several DVD editions of this movie on Amazon. Look for the one with 2 discs and the name Joe Hisaishi in the description!

The passion of Joan of Arc is better.

This is not the score. It doesn't fit at all. It's ridiculous.
