Steffen Peters and 16 year old Floriano are the U.S. Champions of the 2006 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF National Grand Prix Championship. Floriano is owned by Laurelyn Browning. This video captures their performance in the Grand Prix Special class in that competition. They scored in the high 70's. For those new to this sport, the pair are scored for each of the movements in the prescribed test for that class, and can run from 0 to 10. If the movement is not execute, the pair is awarded a score of 0, 3 for a Fairly Bad, 5 for Sufficient, 7 for Fairly Good, 8 for a Good and 10 for Excellent. In the video, you can see some of the scores on the scoreboard in the background. Some movements are given added weight using a coefficient, to acknowledge the difficulty of the movement. There is also a score given for the collective marks: grading the gaits, impulsion, and submission of the horse and the position and correctness of the rider's aids or commands to the horse. This is a "Fairly Good" test. Just sit back, enjoy the show and admire the finesse of this sport!
Mr. Peters and Floriano finished 4th in the Grand Prix Special and 6th in the Freestyle (Kur) at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in August. This video is from the National Championships in June, 2006.
