M113 Gavin + 30mm autocannon = Superior Firepower = Victory

One of the many benefits of the M113 Gavin's 28% superior space/weight efficiency over wheeled trucks is that it has plenty of space to mount stabilized 20-40mm autocannon for shoot-on-the-move capabilities with far greater high explosive punch than having to stop to shoot weak bullets that just puff into walls and kill no bad guys. Afghan walls are a big problem:

To date, however, the Army have been reliant on WIMIK Land Rovers for their fire support, with the occasional intervention of Scorpion light tanks which, with their 30mm Rarden cannon, have been regarded as a "battle winner".

A gun system is all fine and dandy, but we are talking about a combined-arms unit here. The vehicle in itself is worthless on the battlefield unless it carries with it a force of soldiers who can be dismounted to provide the actual firepower dominance over the battlefield. Getting your men into an advantegous firing position should be an APC's top priority. Defence is thus more important for a "battle taxi" than firepower...
