Tenure allows teachers to specialize & teach subjects that have little value for preparing students for real life. Tenure is also a barrier to entry. It's very competitive to get tenure. But once you do, competitive pressures are severely reduced. Thus the educational quality is reduced. Tenure protects a teacher's ability to speak his mind, but who protects the student from ideological indoctrination from a teacher? Tenured professors predictably support tenure. But it's still a bad idea.

i worked in a school for 13.5 yrs the custodian's had tenure in which they used this proection to sabotage my career and get me fired however i dont think tenure is bad in general it's good for teacher's to have i witnessed my football coach almost loose his job because they thought he was leading his team in prayer a good lawyer not tenure saved his job

I agree completely. What happens when a severely left or right wing political science professor is tenured? Half the class on the left, other half on the right, and you have a full blown liberal professor spewing his mouth about global warming. Hows that fair for the people on the right that think global warming is crap? Students on the right write an essay against it and potentially get graded less than the liberal kid writing an essay supporting it.
