Lunch time for my pet Russian tortoise! I totally agree with drw7475. It may not be very exciting for most people, but for an owner it is just so fun to watch. I added some text to give an owner's anthropomorphising view of the tortoise's behavior.

  • just a question my turtle is really active but doesent really like getting wet what should i do and alsohow do you tell the difference between amale and a female and lastlywhen is the proper mating season? please answer^-^ thankyou

  • @232drago Our tortoise really hates being wet too. He doesn't even like drinking water. I think it depends on the climate they (or their ancestor) were born in. It is imaginable that if the tortoise comes from a very dry place, an inch deep water might mean the beginning of a flash flood. So I don't think anybody can change this (at least we haven't had luck). Tail length is the easiest sign to tell male(longer) vs female(shorter). Sorry, don't know much about their mating season.

  • hey just a question, i fed my russian tortoise green mustard (which looks like a lettuce not really sure) and when it was eating, i saw some bubbles forming around his nose. I only saw it a couple times happening and it doesn't happen that often. Also the bubbles disappear quickly though. is that normal for it to happen?? o.o

  • chazz681> We see it often when our tortoise eats watery/juicy things. For example, if it is a tomato, you would see reddish bubble forming. He also sneezes if the bubble doesn't disappear right away. So I think it is normal, and seems tortoises do have a way/ways to coup with this issue.
