INBEV, the people who own Stella Artois, have just launched a new bottled 'Cidre'. I try some, compared with another manufactured cider, Henry Weton's 2010 vintage, which incidentally got a name check on the radio 4 farming programme this very morning. Both drinks were pleasant enough, even if my friends on the Google cider workshop group might disagree. Neither is a real serious bone dry natural English cider IMO, but both OK in their own ways.

Don't take my word for anything, check it out yourself.

  • stephen how does strongbow compare .with traditional good cider.its the only English cider we can get in canada.so its hard to judge on what scale it is??cheers

  • @cooper68ns Strongbow is OK. Its a long way from true west country still natural cider from 100% natural bittersweet cider apples, but not bad.

Magners is more of a sweet fizzy apple flavoured drink.

I'd say that the Stella Cidre is a bit like Strongbow, but lower in alcohol and sweeter.

I hate food (and drink) snobbery, so I;ll say again, it all depends what you enjoy

  • its hard work making videos n'est-ce pas ? and how do they compare with your own brew?

    CHEERS

    Buvez, mon ami.

  • @psgsummers thank you for that,i didn't think strongbow was up on the list very far.but hard to judge with nothing to judge it against .we now have a new cider."tide view " cider a bit expensive but much better, funny thing Nova Scotia has a great apple growing tradition but not much in the cider making.to much regulation on alcohol i think.cheers

  • @psgsummers And really, on a scale of 1-10, I'd place Westons vintage at a 9, and Strongbow at a 1. This is me on a generous day. The only cider worse are those bloody flavoured ones, since they lack authenticity.

  • @cooper68ns As a Hereford lass, I perhaps, am slightly biased toward the Westons out of these two, since it comes from my home county! However, it is, genuinely, a better quality cider which comes from a very traditional press in an idyllic setting. It is a 'REAL,' cider.

It is a shame you can only get hold of Strongbow, which (in my opinion) is the worst, most toxic, chemically enhanced alcoholic apple juice I have ever had the unpleasant experience of trying.

  • So Stephen, if I ever have the pleasure of having a 'couple' of drinks with you, and cider sampling is on the menu, best not suggest the chemical-soup-warery-sugery cheapo fizzy stuff then...

  • i'm not a cider snob, i'm a cider Nazi.

home brewed scrumpy made with local apples is the master race of ciders and this 'Cidre' is the equivalent of a Jew

  • Hi, I'm sure the Western's cider is still diluted quite heavily, it tastes quite watery. Also its very mellow, which reminds me of the traditional French style, which I like. Its nice but I would like to taste it in a natural state, which I'm sure the UK nanny state has ensured will not be happening any time soon.

  • Hi there, great video. I personally didn't like the Stella Artois Cidre, I love my cider just got a bottle of Henry Westons and looking forward to tucking into it later, I love their Stowford Press so hopefully I will like this too :-), good day to your Sir.

  • How about swedish cider? Got tons of expensive real cider in Sweden, that tastes really damn dry.

  • You are much too polite Mr Hayes- nothing comes close to the cider and perry made in Much Marcle- Westons produce the real article.

Which means they don't have to mislead and hype crap masquerading as cider like Bulmers, Stella ,Magners and that horrible E-number laced swedish shit Kopparberg.
