Interlude films were used to "fill-in" gaps in the television schedule, either when there was a technical breakdown (valve technology was prone to breakdown frequently), or, in the early days of post-war television, to allow changes between studios.

This film footage is from the Archive Collection held and administered by the Alexandra Palace Television Society.

  • The "ploughed fields" was not one of the regular interlude films, but still one that is remembered to this day by people of a "certain age"!

  • I remember the BBC repeating the interlude films in 1982 as part of their 60th anniversary. The only one I can't find on You Tube is the one with the farmers ploughing the fields with horses. Love 'em, but all before my time!
