  • Hi Roy, I've tried to use the side control escape method of going to the knees when rolling and sparring. A lot of the time when I use this side control escape method I find myself getting stuck in a guillotine or peruvian necktie position, because my opponent will turn into me as a counter. Could you please tell me how to avoid this when using this escape method?

  • @MrChanceCottle Once you go to your knees, you can't pause or wait. You have to take them down or take their back immediately. You have the underhook. Use it!

  • Hi Roy, I have just started Ju Jitsu in New Zealand after over 15years in a striking style and your videos are extremely helpful and well done, thank you, all the best

  • @uchideshi

or maybe he could shift his head and face the opponents outer hip

  • Great vid! Period.

  • Great post mate. I have been struggling with a few pro guys recently in side control, so I'll see how this goes! Great teach. Train Hard, Fight Easy, and never play leapfrog with a Unicorn!

  • Hi Roy,

The clarity of your teaching is priceless! Osu! My singular problem as a woman is when I have a very heavy partner on top side control and as much as I try I can't create enough space to snake out and get my kne back in I get frustrated, so unfortunately I try to avoid getting on my back like the plague...not a good strategy Help....

  • Thanks for the video. I used this against a top level player who constantly gives me trouble. Now im getting back at him. Great video

  • Professor Dean, I was watching the DVD where you competed at West Side submissions. The way you handled yourself was very influential. I saw you utilizing many of the techniques that you teach. Let alone, the flying triangle that you pulled off. You are an inspiration to BJJ practitioners everywhere. Thank you.

  • Listen, Roy Deans DVD's are the truth. I have been progressively getting better, and his simple practical application methods are genius. Keep up the good work professor Dean!
