found a brand new westinghouse 32" hdtv near my dumpster. going to look into it today (screen is perfect, no cracks anywhere not even on the tv itself)
i think its just a capacitor problem (our neighbors would throw out something if they plug it in and it doesnt work, no one tries to fix anything) its pretty much a heaven for a tech junkie like me

Excellent. I'm buying a 32' one for Christmas. Hopefully, nothing goes wrong with it. They're known for being horribly made.

ive repaired at least over 100 LCD TVs and those shit caps are the most common problem. BUT.....
food for thought: I have a chimei monitor that is 3 years old and still ticking.
And i ran into a westinghouse LCD that actually has good caps, bUT the PWM control IC for the main FET is failed. so.. never know....

Congrats on the free TV.

my uncle has this tv mounted in his backyard, and it suits the purpose.

You are looking for a capacitor that has either blown its top, or is about to. All electrolytic capacitors should have perfectly flat tops; if you see one that doesn't, replace it with one of the exact same value.
