Written and performed by Elizabeth Matthews, author of 'HMS Resolute:From the Canadian Arctic to the President's Desk' this song is about HMS RESOLUTE, abandoned in 1852, salvaged, and returned to Britain in 1856. Queen Victoria gave the President of USA a desk made from the ship's timbers. It is used in the Oval Office today. For more of the Resolute story and lyrics go to www.hmsresolute.co.uk

The barking in the background 3/4 of the way through the song is our huskie, waiting in the wings to take us sledging across the Arctic! Actually, it is our border terrier, Carrock, who is himself a star of newspapers and the small screen, & just couldn't take someone else in the limelight. :o) (Really? The postman came to the door while we were filming!) Thanks for the atmosphere, Carrock!!

  • Great to hear a song about the Resolute epic tale at last! Long overdue. Love the book too - 'HMS Resolute, from the Canadian Arctic to the President's desk' When is the non-fiction version out? Obama's aide needs to read your stuff and help him give the Brits a better pressie next time - William Cavendish
