Not necessarily. You have to explore the possibilities of the hardware in order to be able to develop new and potentially more useful products. This is true in most electronical business.

It's homebrew, it's free and we make it happen just because we can. Wether or not it has a greater purpose or is actually useful is nothing one should worry about. :)
