Ah...the good old days of flying when the airlines competed on their service. Nowadays, it's everyman for himself, 29 inches of 'leg' room, and over worked flight attendants. I fear we will never have the good old days back again!

The people who run/own airlines are greedy and they don't treat their pilots or other employees very well... most of all the passengers aren't treated well either. I remember when I was a kid, you got dressed up for a plane ride. Pilots and crew members were looked up to like dignitaries. 30 years ago, flying was a big deal. These airlines just don't care anymore. No wonder why no one wants to fly anymore. Where's the flare?

@Concordelover (Was better.) Not according to celebrities, Hollywood stars and anyone who wanted schedule reliability and great service. I flew as a pilot for TWA for 34 years and rode as a pass rider on Pan Am many times. The Pan Am people were great but their company was strapped for cash the last 30 years of their existence and it showed.
Both companies offered far superior service than ones operating today. RIP.

Mr. Sellars was a lovely man and a frequent passenger on the Polar out of LAX. It was a privilege to meet him. R.I.P., Peter!

@simongbb7 They treated you like a celebrity back then. It was so fabulous that you even needed an agent to come along with you.

That commercial was made before TWA made the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar its "wide-body workhorse."
-
@abehammy No probably Peter Sellers
-
@simongbb7 and US carriers have stopped using B747 on domestic flights like coast-to coast,mainland-Hawaii etc

it was great indeed, but TWA remained in business longer

Did Howard Hughes have anything to do with wanting Sellars for his commercials in 1970?

No, he didn't. Mr. Hughes sold his TWA stock in 1966 for $546m.
