This is my meager attempt at playing Don McLean's song "Vincent" as played by Chet Atkins on his album "Read My Licks".

I performed this recording on a Yamaha model CG-180SA Classical Guitar.

  • Very nice indeed! What guitar are you playing - and what strings has it?

  • Thank you!

The guitar is a Yamaha CG-180SA I purchased back in 1991 or 1992. The strings are D'Addario DJ-45s if I remember correctly.

  • Very nice .. :)

  • Thanks! Sadly, I couldn't play this now unless I worked on it again. Since I've been studying other pieces the last two semesters, I've lost much of it (I know, it's still in my head), but it'll take some work to get it back!

  • Are you using rest strokes for the melody?

  • No, I'm not using rest-strokes...at least not intentionally.

    Jim

  • that's my name VINCENT!

  • How are you getting such great tone? I used to own the same guitar and used the same strings. Must be the finger nails?

Anyway, great tune and I added it as a favorite. Thanks very much for posting this.

  • Fantastic!

  • That was really good, I learned it yesterday. It took 4 hours. But so worth it.

  • Very nice.... inspiring !! thanks for sharing.
