George Wallace was the best governor Alabama ever had. As a cc student, I'm very grateful to him for establishing the Alabama community college system.

For those wondering how the Wallace/Brewer race turned out: The crowded primary field for this May 1970 Alabama Governors primary almost made a runoff (between the top two finishers) a foregone conclusion - a candidate had to get at least 50% of the vote to avoid this possibility. Wallace finished a close second, but held Brewer to under 50%. The fiesty Wallace then proceeded to do what no other candidate in Alabama history had done - he came charging back (from 2nd place) to win the runoff.

The real interesting stories are those after the Alabam primary story. Union leader murdered, Social Security taxes on the first $9,000 of income, Pulitzer Prize winners.

trust me, thats actually an actual teabagger agenda

@FrsBigeasy, didn't everyone in the state know that Wallace was pulling the strings with Lurleen as governor and according to the movie, his advisers warned that his "getting around the term limits law" was going too far.
-
@pem82sox, if Brewer had won that primary in 1970, Alabama would have been spared of Wallace's dictatorship for over 20 years (his wife Lurleen's term counts as a 5th term).

George Wallace became the official Leader of Alabama once again in 1970
-
Wallace was an racist...burn in the hell
-
1970 was George Wallace's official Path back to Power even though he was still in control in Alabama unofficially
Being born and raised in Alabama this is a really cool find. Thanks for posting!
