Recorded live on the Old Style Stage at the Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 2nd, 1994. The only original members are Steve Walsh and Rich Williams

This song is from the 1988 album IN THE SPIRIT OF THINGS which is their 11th effort and 13th overall. The song was written by Steve Walsh and Steve Morse. This was a concept album about the flooding of the town of Neosho Falls, Kansas.

One of many overlooked gems from this band!
Steve Walsh often says that this is his favorite Kansas album.

This one is for JonWRowe who has asked about this song for a long time. I finally found it!

Steve Walsh - Vocals, Keyboards
Rich Williams - Guitars
Billy Greer - Bass, Vocals
David Ragsdale - Violin, Guitars and Vocals
Greg Roberts - Keyboards, Vocals
Bryan Holmes - Drums

  • One of my favorite Kansas albums too, although if they had left Once in a lifetime and maybe One man one heart out this work would have sounded a little bit less commercial. As for Genesis... Kansas learnt a lot from them, people need to acknowledge that...

  • I think it's safe to say that any band has many influences and it's really not necessary to point that out. There's nothing wrong with doing so but demanding it is really not necessary.

  • Yes, it's my favourite Kansas Album, too! The very best PREACHER!! A fantastic singer! Thanx for uploading!

  • You're welcome!

  • This is my favorite Kansas song, from my favorite Kansas album.

  • I always feel that Kansas should have been as huge as Genesis but I guess their music was just not as commercial. No "In Too Deep", "That's All", "Invisible Touch" etc. - not that I'm knocking those songs. I just prefer "House On Fire" or "Bells of St. James" to any of the Genesis songs I mentioned.

  • @MRWSSHORTY Also Steve Walsh's favorite Kansas album.

  • @psychorama1

And Genesis learned a lot from Kansas too. Steve Hackett once said that Steve Walsh was the best lead singer in the world!

  • I agree... but someone said that Kansas are better than Genesis because they never wrote stuff like Invisible touch... Well I have to disagree with that, they were blown away by the 80s like most seventies bands... But songs like "Bells" is the proof that they could still write epic stuff!

  • In the Spirit of Things really is a great album; it's an album not a collection of songs. The production and songwriting are excellent. However, I don't view it as a true Kansas album because it wasn't scripted by Livgren or Walsh, for the most part. Walsh contibuted, as did Morse, but 50% is by outside writers.

  • I've been a Kansas fan for about thirty years. I love most of their early stuff but "In the Spirit of Things" has been my favorite album since it came out in 1988.

  • @dchris24 I agree with you! Steve's vocals in the Power album are unbelievable!!! I really loved both of these albums! What a talent! Thanks for posting this!
