A test of the return spring gearbox mod
The return spring acts as a shock absorber against gear-shock from acceleration and uneven road surface. It also seems to act as a rudimentary traction-control, as the little quad now acends steeper gradients and copes with uneven terrain without becoming stuck nearly as often as before this mod.
One slight difference from this test for the future. This spring was deliberately picked to be fairly weak so that the effect could be shown off at the original 12volt setting, for which it was adequate. At 24 volts, it is apparent that a slightly stronger spring would be ideal. A tent-rope tensioning spring (the sort that compresses a coil spring when the ends are pulled apart) seems like the best option.
