Extremely rare song from The Corrie Folk Trio (Bill Smith, Roy Williamson, and Ronnie Browne) recorded in the mid 60s. (Bill Smith sings lead vocals in this song)
The history of this song is "The lassies with the yellow coaties" were the women who worked at the fishing, gutting, packing, salting, and the like..... and the yellow garb was their mark of office.

  • I was just watching your The Caern vid. Curious, is the Corrie Folk Trio's Bill Smith related to The Caern's Tom Smith? Do I thnk I see a family resemblance between the two or is it just my imagination? :-)

  • @thetrollfairy

Yes, you're right, Tom was Bill's brother

    :)

  • Gosh, this is very rare. Is that Paddie Bell that's in the photo? First heard the promise of the day that featured her singing

  • Yes that's Paddie Bell. :)

  • Curious I am! Mandolinda are there more of these in your grandda's vault planned coming for us? cheers

  • Yes! More on the way if all goes well with my posting of them (and by chance my bloody Vista software cooperates with me!) :)

  • I think Bill's was the romantic voice of the trio, and his sweet voice appealed more to the ladies ears! (mine being included!). Lovely to hear this again!

That being said, cherrydavie,I feel yours is a very rash and cynical comment that should've been kept to yourself!

  • Another real gem - fantastic!

Thanks your kind comments. Glad you enjoy it. This track was never released at the time. Maybe it should have been.! Thanks to Linda it has now seen the light of day.

  • Aw, man - this old CFT stuff is fantastic. I only saw the Corries once - at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and have loved them since, but this stuff should be made a national treasure. Keep it coming!

  • @thetrollfairy

Glad you like it. This was recorded at a stage in our development when we were innocently singing the songs we loved.
